Keratoconus
Keratoconus
Keratoconus is an eye condition where the cornea, the clear, dome-shaped surface at the front of the eye, becomes thinner and begins to bulge outward into a cone shape. This deformity causes blurred vision and can lead to sensitivity to light and glare. The condition often affects both eyes, though one eye may be more affected than the other. It typically begins during the late teens or early 20s and may progress slowly for 10 years or longer.
Symptoms of Keratoconus:
- Mild blurring of vision: Vision gradually becomes less clear.
- Slight distortion of vision: Images may appear wavy or distorted.
- Increased sensitivity to light: Difficulty in bright light and glare.
- Glare: Trouble seeing in low-light or nighttime conditions due to light sensitivity.
- Mild eye irritation: Dryness or discomfort may occur.
Ayurvedic Treatment for Keratoconus:
In Ayurveda, Keratoconus is believed to be caused by the vitiation of Vata dosha. The cornea is considered the seat of Vata, and imbalanced Vata dosha affects the shape and thickness of the cornea, leading to the conical bulging. Ayurvedic treatments aim to arrest the degeneration process, reduce symptoms, and improve the condition.
